Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
The other player stepped on the foot of the big man, who instantly fell to the court holding his knee.
The veteran player, that leads the league season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before incurring the injury.
The player is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the problem.
"Instantly, Jokic knew he was hurt," said Denver head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who is injured, it's tough to see, particularly a player as important as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Obviously, currently, I am more worried about him as a person and the letdown of facing something like that."
