The President Calls Families of Shot Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to help others.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” the governor informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
