The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, announced how he plans to personally create this new flavor as part of a personal collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators and Corporate Owner

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker and Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed how the parent company along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor becoming a Symbol of Support

The entrepreneur revealed through an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol of support for Palestinians because of its colors, which match those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand which was first created several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated that he will develop additional ice cream flavors focusing on issues which the company was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's in September, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after corporate moves to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can fulfill its ethical purpose, the values that established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
