Arsenal Football Club has declared that its disputed sponsorship partnership with Visit Rwanda will terminate in June this upcoming year.

The arrangement, said to be worth around ÂŁ10 million annually, was initiated six years ago and has since faced significant scrutiny.

The backlash is due to accusations of Rwandan assistance for the M23 rebel group in continuing hostilities in the eastern part of the bordering Congo.

However, the deal has now ended after both parties “jointly decided” to end their collaboration.

“Collaboratively, Arsenal and the Rwanda Development Board have surpassed the initial objectives of the partnership – promoting conservation and eco-friendly travel, motivating countless fans to explore Rwanda, and creating a lasting foundation for tourism growth,” read an Gunners' release.

The announcement added that the partnership has also aided Rwanda's goal of becoming an international sporting hub in Africa and welcome more worldwide tournaments while implementing local football projects that have supported many aspiring footballers and coaches improve their techniques and promote increased engagement in athletics nationwide.

Executive Perspective and Fan Reaction

Richard Garlick, Arsenal's chief executive officer, characterized the deal as a “major expedition” and stated it had been “propelling” the club's ambitions.

However, this perspective was not shared by a section of Arsenal's fanbase, with the campaign group Gunners for Peace holding rallies outside the Emirates Stadium during the first semi-final encounter in Europe's premier competition against Paris Saint-Germain in the end of April.

Activists unveiled a sign stating “Drop Visit Rwanda” and provided wristbands to cover up the Rwanda branding on uniforms.

Industry Perspective and Fellow Clubs

Around that time, the French champions extended their sponsorship arrangement with Visit Rwanda until 2028.

At the same time, the Madrid-based team inked a recent contract for the equivalent timeframe that has led to the branding featured on the Madrid-based team's first-team and women's team jerseys.
