The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the UK's grassroots live music spots.

He was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his live tour to support 38 small stages across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties caused by floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in upgrading facilities and gear that helped artists and fans.

"The idea that revenue from shows in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his award funds to worthy causes.

When Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman Cocker stated that the group would give their winnings to the organization War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she split her award across a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

In recent years, the band gave their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year they contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," stated vocalist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the second in that location were purchased under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
