Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
