Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
