Brian Eno Urges Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.

A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.

“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”

Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.

“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Contributing Musicians

The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.

The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The single features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.

The team running the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.

“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”

The context in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.

“Against that backdrop, a few million won't make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”

The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
